How do you know if you might be in an emotional affair? I have a friend, colleague, that calls me pretty much everyday. I am single, he is married and I really enjoy his company and phone calls. We talk about personal stuff but nothing too intimate, what is the differnce between friendship and an emotional affair?

Dear Christina,
There is nothing wrong with friendship with another person than your partner. But when it comes to their being secrecy- where the spouse or partner doesn't know about your friendship or has issues with it than there is a problem. Emotional Infidelity is when a person in a relationship is getting their emotional needs such as love, understanding and problem solving met by another person that the spouse and partner does not know about.
If you are not sure if this is the case. Ask your friend if he is getting his emotional needs met at home or is he looking to you for that?
That will answer your question and you will know if you have been participating in emotional infidelity.
If so I would cease participating in that dynamic in this relationship and tell him to come clean with his wife.
